Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jongmoon will deliver welcoming remarks at the 5th meeting on the Northeast Asia Cooperation for Health Security (NEACHS) initiative to be held in a virtual format on the evening of today, Thursday, December 16.

In his welcoming remarks, Vice Minister Choi will ask the participating countries to work together for the NEACHS to develop further as a consultative mechanism on health security with a strategic value.

The forthcoming meeting will bring together foreign affairs and health officials of Korea, the U.S., China, Japan, Russia and Mongolia, who will review the achievements made in the NEACHS over the past one year since its launch in December 2020 and discuss ways to move it forward.

In particular, the meeting is expected to see progress in laying an institutional framework for the NEACHS, including discussing the terms of reference (TOR) stipulating its basic operation policy.
