Press Briefing

Deputy Spokesperson Lee Jaewoong

August 10, 2021 14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

On Thursday, August 12, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jongmoon will deliver welcome remarks at the Space Diplomacy Forum 2021 to be co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Science and Technology Policy Institute.

In his welcome remarks, Vice Minister Choi will introduce Korea’s activities in key areas of space development and stress the importance of space diplomacy and education for future generations.

At the Forum, one of the follow-up measures to the Korea-U.S. summit held in May including Korea’s joining of the Artemis Accords and the signing of the Korea-U.S. Joint Statement on Civil Global Navigation Satellite Systems Cooperation, experts from major countries in space development including the U.S. as well as international organizations will discuss ways to foster international cooperation for space exploration and development and challenges in the area.

In particular, students who have much interest in space will be invited to a side event to be held ahead of the Forum, which will provide an opportunity for dialogue between space experts and future generations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects the Forum to serve as an opportunity to raise international awareness of Korea’s capability and contribution in the space sector and expand the network for space diplomacy with major countries.
