Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will attend the G20 Extraordinary Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in a virtual format today, September 3.

 

The upcoming Meeting will take place as a follow-up discussion on the G20 Extraordinary Leaders’ Summit held in March. Minister Kang will explain how the Republic of Korea has been responding to COVID-19 and underscore the need for international collaboration for travel of essential personnel, including business people.

 

On the 1st “International Day of Clean Air for blue skies,” which has been designated by the United Nations and appointed for next Monday, September 7, Minister Kang will attend and deliver welcoming remarks at a ceremony to be co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council on Climate and Air Quality of Korea and Chungcheongnam-do (south Chungcheong province).

 

Minister Kang will attend the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy on September 8 as a special speaker at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu.

 

Minister Kang will introduce to the heads of the overseas missions of Romania the ROK government’s response to COVID-19, give a speech on the significance of solidarity and cooperation under the COVID-19 pandemic and hold a question-and-answer session.

 

Ahead of the meeting, Minister Kang will discuss with Minister of Foreign Affairs Aurescu the relations between the ROK and Romania, which mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2020.

 

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho will deliver congratulatory remarks at the online launching ceremony of “the new northern young future pioneer group” on September 8. Vice Minister Lee will encourage the members of the group to actively seek ways to achieve the goals of the New Northern Policy with their innovative ideas, including exploring future growth engines in Eurasia, with their top priority placed on safety in the COVID-19 situation.
