The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea hosted the “Korea–Pacific Islands Talk Concert: Talk the Blue Pacific!” under the theme “Talk on the Pacific with the Foreign Ministers of Pacific Island Countries” on Tuesday, December 9, in Seoul. The event was attended by approximately 100 participants from Korea and the Pacific Islands with an interest in climate change and the Pacific Island region.
The event featured lectures by Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands, and H.E. Baron Waqa, Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), both of whom were visiting Korea to attend the 6th Korea–Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held earlier the same day. In addition, Dr. Choi Ina of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) delivered a presentation on “Enhancing Korea-Pacific Island Countries Cooperation.”
This was followed by an open Q&A session with the audience, focusing on climate change and other challenges faced by Pacific Island Countries.
The talk concert was evaluated as a meaningful opportunity to enhance public interest in and understanding of the Pacific Islands and to broaden the foundation for future exchanges between Korea and the Pacific Island Countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to make sustained efforts to lay the groundwork for future-oriented cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the Pacific Island Countries.
