Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun held talks with Le Hoai Trung, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 23. They discussed ways to develop ROK–Viet Nam relations as well as Korean Peninsula affairs.

Minister Cho congratulated Acting Minister Trung on his appointment and expressed his hope that the two sides would work closely together to further advance the ROK–Viet Nam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also expressed his expectation that both countries would make active efforts to implement the follow-up on the ROK–Viet Nam summit held during the state visit to the Republic of Korea by Community Party General Secretary of Viet Nam To Lam this August.

Acting Minister Trung expressed his appreciation for Minister Cho’s congratulations and emphasized that the Vietnamese government places great importance on cooperation with Korea. He stated that Viet Nam would actively work to ensure the faithful implementation of the follow-up on the ROK–Viet Nam summit and thereby to bring tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Minister Cho expressed his anticipation for the participation of Vietnamese President Luong Cuong in the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, to which Acting Minister Trung responded positively. The two Ministers also agreed to continue working closely together within the framework of APEC.

Minister Cho explained the Korean government’s efforts to promote peace and coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and requested Viet Nam’s close cooperation and support in this regard.
