Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun held his first phone call on Wednesday afternoon, August 6, with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, which also served as a courtesy call following his inauguration. During the call, they exchanged views on strengthening the ROK–Viet Nam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as on regional and international issues.

Minister Cho noted with appreciation that, since the launch of the new Korean government, the two countries have been actively advancing bilateral relations through mutual exchanges, including leaders’ phone call on June 12 and reciprocal high-level visits. He also expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Vietnamese side during the visit of the ROK President’s Special Envoy to Viet Nam last week (July 28–30), and suggested that the two sides continue to actively promote high-level exchanges and communication while working closely together on regional and international stages.

Minister Son expressed his agreement with Minister Cho’s remarks, stating that Viet Nam regards the ROK as a trusted key partner. He proposed that the two countries continue to actively develop the ROK–Viet Nam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across various fields, including high-level exchanges, economic cooperation, and science and technology. Minister Son also wished for Korea's successful hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju this year, and suggested meeting Minister Cho in person in the near future to discuss ways to further advance bilateral relations.
