Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Jina attended the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) held at the GGGI headquarters in Jeong-dong, Seoul, on September 22. On this occasion, she met and extended encouragement to Director-General of GGGI Kim Sang-Hyup and its staff.

※ GGGI was launched as a non-profit foundation in June 2010, and transformed into an international organization in October 2012 upon the entry into force of its establishment agreement. GGGI supports developing countries’ green growth and response to climate change. It started with 18 member countries in 2012 and has 52 members as of September 2025.

MOFA has concluded an MOU with GGGI every year as the basis for providing core funding to the organization. Under the newly signed MOU, the government of the Republic of Korea will provide approximately KRW 17.67 billion in core funding for 2025.

Vice Minister Kim noted that GGGI – established in Korea – has become a model of international cooperation and a valuable platform for helping developing countries in their efforts to respond to climate change and transition toward a green economy. She further emphasized that Korea, as a responsible member of the international community, will continue to play an active role in addressing global challenges including the climate crisis. Vice Minister Kim also reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to supporting GGGI’s continued efforts to advance a sustainable future.

In response, Director-General Kim stated that GGGI, the first international organization established under the leadership of the Republic of Korea, has grown on the basis of Korea’s long-standing commitment and support as a founding member. He stated that he looked forward to working together to advance a sustainable and inclusive future under today’s MOU.

The government of the Republic of Korea will continue to work closely with GGGI to ensure that the organization can effectively support and advance an inclusive and sustainable green transition in developing and emerging economies.
