1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun had a bilateral meeting and working dinner with Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwaya Takeshi in Japan on Tuesday afternoon, July 29. The two Ministers had an extensive and in-depth discussion on matters of mutual interest, such as the advancement of bilateral relations as well as regional and global affairs.
2. The two Ministers appreciated the expanding scope of collaboration and exchange between the two countries in a variety of areas, as well as the active high-level communication since the launch of the new Korean government. In addition, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of ROK-Japan relations, the two Ministers agreed to achieve tangible outcomes of cooperation through further coordination between the diplomatic authorities, aiming toward a future-oriented bilateral relationship.
3. The two Ministers, recognizing that today’s international environment is undergoing profound changes amid the global polycrisis, concurred that the two sides should work together to jointly respond to various challenges, with their common interests in mind. The two Ministers also shared the view that ROK-Japan and ROK-U.S.-Japan trilateral cooperation are important in maintaining peace and security in the region, and agreed to strengthen dialogue at all levels.
4. The two Ministers expressed their willingness to communicate more closely, with a view to building a more solid and mature relationship between the two countries.
