- Following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Cuba on February 14, 2024, youth exchange activities between the two countries officially began. -
1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the launching ceremony for the “2025 Korea-Cuba Youth Dream Supporters” on the afternoon of Monday, June 30, in in its Mopamaru Hall.
* Twenty young adults each from Korea and Cuba have been grouped into mixed teams to carry out activities aimed at enhancing friendship between the two countries, including proposing policy ideas for bilateral cooperation, promoting public awareness regarding the two countries, and participating in visit Korea programs for Cubans.
2. The “2025 Korea-Cuba Youth Dream Supporters” group was launched following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Cuba in February 2024 to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of both countries. Over the next five months, the Supporters will engage in a variety of online and offline activities, including creating social media contents on both countries, and participating in policy idea contests on bilateral cooperation and seminars featuring experts, as well as joining events with Cuban Supporters to be invited to Korea. In the selection process for the Korean Supporters, 280 applicants competed for 20 spots, marking a competitive rate of 14:1 and demonstrating a high level of interest among Korean youth in exchanges with Cuba.

In his welcoming remarks at the launching ceremony, Lee Jooil, Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that the long-standing history of people-to-people exchanges and the favorable feeling of the two countries’ people toward each other’s cultures played a role in the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He expressed hope that the Supporters program would help young people from both nations gain a deeper appreciation of each other's cultures and contribute to building a future-oriented and friendly relationship between the two countries.
4. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to promote friendship with other countries through youth exchanges and encourage young adults of Korea to take part in diplomatic activities in a bid to help them grow into future leaders of diplomacy.
