MOFA Dispatches 100 Public Diplomacy Trainees to Overseas Missions

1. On June 19 (Thursday), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a kick-off ceremony for the ‘2025 Public Diplomacy Field Training Program.’ At the event, Ms. Huh Jungae, Deputy Director-General for Public Diplomacy and Cultural Affairs, delivered a congratulatory speech. The event also included education on public diplomacy and safety during overseas stays, followed by a special session for networking and experience-sharing among trainees.


2. Deputy Director-General Huh advised that this year’s public diplomacy trainees, as youth citizen diplomats, make endeavours to promote mutual understanding between Korea and the respective host countries, and to enhance the Republic of Korea’s image.


3. Furthermore, more than 20 previous participants of the Public Diplomacy Field Training Program also attended the event. They shared their own experiences and useful tips for living abroad and exchanged views on future career paths.


4. Since 2013, the Ministry has implemented the Public Diplomacy Field Training Program, through which young Koreans are dispatched each year to overseas diplomatic missions to build their capacity in public diplomacy. The Ministry has strived to foster youths with global capabilities and, thereby, to assist them in seeking jobs abroad in relevant sectors.


5. The Ministry has significantly increased the number of participants in this year’s program. A total of 100 youths finally chosen will be dispatched soon to 84 overseas diplomatic missions for six months. They will participate in various public diplomacy activities based on knowledge, policy, culture, digital technologies, and more.


※ Since the program’s launch in 2013, a total of 486 people have been dispatched as of 2024.
