- Reception Commemorating 60th Anniversary of Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between Korea and Japan in Seoul -
1. A reception commemorating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan was held at a Lotte Hotel in Seoul on Monday, June 16. The reception was hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Korea in accordance with the decision by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries to hold such a reception in their capitals as part of a joint project to celebrate the 60th anniversary.
2. In his celebratory video speech, President Lee Jae Myung noted that the two countries have made remarkable progress in various fields such as economy, culture and human exchanges, over the past 60 years; cast with emphasis the two countries as important partners that need to seek together ways to respond to the turbulent global situation; and called for “Joining Hands for a Better Future*.”
* It is a slogan for the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan.
3. Kim Jina, 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, said in her remarks that the development of Korea-Japan relations has been facilitated by the trust and exchanges between the people of the two countries and that she will work for a stable and future-oriented development of bilateral relations.
4. On June 19 (Thursday), a similar reception will be held in Tokyo, hosted by the Korean Embassy in Japan and bringing together figures of the two countries. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs as well as other government agencies and private sectors of the two countries have been holding various joint commemorative events to mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations.
※ As of Monday, June 16, around of 130 commemorative projects, including about 70 private-sector events, have been approved by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
