Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of MOFA Chung Byung-won Meets with Director-General of ONCF (Moroccan National Railways Office)

1. On June 17, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chung Byung-won held a meeting with Director-General of Morocco's National Railways Office (ONCF) Mohamed Rabie Khlie during the latter’s visit to Korea.


2. Deputy Minister Chung mentioned that Korea will seek to further strengthen substantive cooperation with Global South countries under its new administration, and underscored the importance of economic cooperation between Korea and Morocco, a hub country connecting Africa, the Middle East and Europe, as well as the only African country with high-speed railways.


3. In particular, Deputy Minister Chung, calling the recently signed 2.2 trillion KRW train order contract between Korea's Hyundai Rotem and the ONCF a historic milestone in the advancement of Korea-Morocco relations, extended appreciation to Director-General Khlie for his hard work. Deputy Minister Chung also conveyed hopes that the two countries will expand and deepen their coopeartion going forward.


4. Conveying his gratitude for the Korean government's invitation to Korea, Director-General Khlie noted that the participation of a top-level Korean company in this historic-scale project has helped open up a new chapter of cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed hope for enhanced collaborative ties in a wide range of sectors beyond railways.


5. The meeting served as a significant opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of Korea and Morocco to strengthening substantive cooperation and to explore ways to enhance collaboration in the railway sector.
