1. On May 14, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun met with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir in Jakarta to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments.

2. The two Vice Ministers highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Indonesia have achieved remarkable progress in cooperation in a wide range of areas, including politics, economy, security and the defense industry, as well as on the international stage. They expressed their confidence that under the new administrations of both countries, the Special Strategic Partnership between Korea and Indonesia will continue to deepen, grounded in strong political trust built through frequent high-level exchanges.

3. Vice Minister Kim underlined that the Republic of Korea would serve as the optimal partner for the realization of Indonesia's “2045 Golden Indonesia Vision.” The two sides expressed their expectation that mutually beneficial and strategic cooperation would be strengthened in key policy areas of the new Indonesian government, such as energy, food security, downstream industry development, and human resource capacity-building. Recalling that President Prabowo had assured active support for Korean business activities during an April meeting with the business and investment delegation from the Federation of Korean Industries, Vice Minister Arrmanatha stated that the government of Indonesia would endeavor to create a business-friendly environment to boost Korean investment and ensure smooth operations for Korean enterprises.

4. The two Vice Ministers reaffirmed the need to bolster strategic coordination amid growing geopolitical and geo-economic uncertainties. They recognized the need to smoothly implement strategic cooperation projects in the security and defense industry sectors based on mutual trust, and to actively explore new areas of cooperation, such as shipbuilding and supply chains, where both countries possess significant reciprocal potential.

5. Vice Minister Kim emphasized that North Korea’s ongoing nuclear and missile provocations and unlawful military cooperation with Russia constitute a serious threat to the Korean Peninsula and the international community as a whole. He stressed the importance of a united voice from the international community and requested Indonesia, as a key cooperation partner, to play an active role in sending a clear message from ASEAN on this issue.

6. Later on the same day, Vice Minister Kim also had individual meetings with Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development of Indonesia, and Arif Havas Oegroseno, Vice Foreign Minister of Indonesia, to exchange views on the importance of further developing the Special Strategic Partnership, vitalizing high-level exchanges, cooperation on infrastructure, maritime security, and regional and global issues.
