1. Deputy Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chung Byung-won met with Ambassador-Designate of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Korea Dai Bing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul on the morning of January 3, and the two sides discussed Korea-China relations and other matters.
2. Deputy Minister Chung welcomed Ambassador-Designate Dai’s appointment and expressed expectations that the Ambassador-Designate, with extensive experiences in multilateral and regional diplomacy, will play a significant role in and contribute to further advancing the bilateral relationship between Korea and China. Deputy Minister Chung also conveyed the Korean government’s commitment to actively supporting the Ambassador-Designate in such endeavors.
3. Both sides shared the view that the positive momentum of vibrant exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the past year should be sustained and further developed in 2025. In particular, Deputy Minister Chung highlighted the importance of close communication and coordination in preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting to be held in Gyeongju later this year.
4. Ambassador-Designate Dai expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and stated his intention to faithfully fulfill his duties as Ambassador to Korea by promoting the development of Korea-China relations through active cooperation and close communication with the Korean side in diverse areas.
5. In the meeting, Ambassador-Designate Dai also reiterated condolences of the Chinese government regarding the recent Jeju Air passenger plane accident. Deputy Minister Chung expressed appreciation for China’s message of sympathy.
