Outcome of Korea-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Conversation

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul had a 35-minute telephone conversation with Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamikawa Yoko on May 22, 2024, sharing the results of his recent visit to China and exchanging opinions on the Korea-Japan-China Trilateral Summit and other issues of mutual interest.


2. Foreign Minister Cho explained that his recent visit to China was meaningful as the ROK and China deepened their understanding of each other's positions through honest and candid dialogue and agreed to manage ROK-China relations stably based on that.


3. In addition, Foreign Minister Cho voiced his hope that, on the occasion of the Korea-Japan-China Trilateral Summit the schedule of which is currently under final coordination, the ROK and Japan will further strengthen the momentum for the development of bilateral relations secured through the close communication between the leaders of the two countries last year.


4. Foreign Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude to Foreign Minister Cho for his explanation and suggested that the ROK and Japan, in close communication with each other, continue to cooperate for the success of the Korea-Japan-China Trilateral Summit.


5. The two ministers also exchanged opinions on pending issues between the two countries and agreed to meet again on the occasion of upcoming key diplomatic events for continued close communication on various issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
