- Selection of three candidate cities(Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongju, Incheon Metropolitan City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (in Korean alphabetical order)) to host the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) -

- Decided an on-site inspection plan to evaluate the conditions of each candidate city to hold the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) -

1. The second meeting of the “Host City Selection Committee“ for selecting the host city for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM), which is to be held in the Republic of Korea in 2025, was held on May 7, 2024, from 16:00 to 18:00, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul.

※ Progress so far regarding the selection of host city for the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM)

- The first meeting of the “Host City Selection Committee“ took place (March 21).

- A briefing session on plans for selecting the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) host city was held for provincial governments (March 28).

- Applications for hosting the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) were submitted by provincial governments (March 27 - April 19).

o At this meeting, the “Host City Selection Committee“ reviewed the applications for hosting the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) from each provincial government received by April 19, and as a result, the three provincial governments(Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongju, Incheon Metropolitan City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province) which submitted the applications were all decided as candidate cities to host the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM).

o In addition, at this meeting, an on-site inspection plan for the three candidate cities was also decided. The on-site inspection team* will be formed to evaluate each candidate city’s conditions to host the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) in May.

* The on-site inspection team is expected to consist of personnel who can comprehensively evaluate the overall conditions to hold the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM), including officials from relevant Ministries and private experts belonging to the “Host City Selection Committee,” and members of the “Preparatory Office for APEC 2025,“ etc.

2. At the beginning of the meeting, Chairman of the Host City Selection Committee Yoon Jin Sik appreciated that the provincial governments that submitted applications are making voluntary efforts to successfully host the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) in a way that matches each city’s individual characteristics. Chairman Yoon also stressed that the “Host City Selection Committee“ will carry out the on-site inspection in a careful and thorough manner in order to ensure a fair and objective evaluation of each candidate city.

3. After the on-site inspection on candidate cities (which will be conducted in May), each candidate city will give a presentation on their plan for hosting the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM). The host city for the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) is expected to be decided within the first half of this year by combining the evaluation results.

4. The “Host City Selection Committee“ will continue its contribution to select the most suitable city to host the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting(AELM) successfully.
