Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun Meets with Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Marian (March 19)

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun met with Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Marian on March 19 during the latter’s visit to Korea to attend the Ministerial Conference of the 3rd Summit for Democracy. During the meeting, they exchanged views on Korea-Czechia relations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional and global affairs.


2. Vice Minister Kim hoped that Korea and Czechia, as strategic partners sharing universal values, will further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the future. Deputy Minister Marian shared Vice Minister Kim's view and suggested that the two value-sharing nations work together not only to develop bilateral relations but also to address global issues.


3. Vice Minister Kim requested the Czech government’s special attention and support to ensure that globally competitive Korean companies participate in the construction of new nuclear power plants in Dukovany, for which a bidding process is underway. Deputy Minister Marian responded that the Czech side is well aware of technological capabilities and experiences of Korea.


4. Vice Minister Kim and Deputy Minister Marian expressed concerns over North Korea’s continued provocations and its military cooperation with Russia posing great threats to peace and stability not only on the Korean Peninsula but also in Europe. And the two sides agreed to continue close coordination to block North Korea’s evasion of Security Council sanctions and its military cooperation with Russia, facilitate the North’s denuclearization and improve its human rights situation.


5. Vice Minister Kim and Deputy Minister Marian shared the view on the necessity for the two countries to coordinate closely with the international community for a swift end to the crisis, the restoration of peace, and reconstruction in Ukraine. They also discussed ways for cooperation on the global stage, including the United Nations.
