1. The Korean government announced its pledge for humanitarian assistance to the Horn of Africa region at the High-level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Response in the Horn of Africa, held in New York on May 24.

2. Participants in the meeting assessed that the humanitarian situation in the Horn of Africa is deteriorating due to severe drought, food crisis and conflicts, and shared the view that the international community’s active participation is crucial to provide humanitarian assistance to the region.

3. The Korean government announced that this year, it will provide US$2.3 million in humanitarian assistance to respond to the humanitarian crises in the region, including drought and food crisis, and contribute US$18.4 million worth of rice to the region.

4. The Korean government also emphasized the importance of international support for the Horn of Africa, which faces complex crises such as conflicts, poverty, climate change, and drought, and said that it will continue to contribute to the development of the region, which has young population and growth potential due to its strategic importance.

5. As a responsible member of the international community, the Korean government will continue to actively participate in the international community's efforts to alleviate the humanitarian situation in the Horn of Africa.
