2023 Korea-Latin America Future Cooperation Forum Takes Place

1. The "2023 Korea-Latin America Future Cooperation Forum," co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Busan Metropolitan City, was held successfully in Seoul on May 16.


2. The forum aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation for co-prosperity between Korea and Latin America in a changing global order. 


3. High-level officials from nine Latin American countries and over 200 representatives from the Korean government, academia, and business attended the event. 


4. Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin delivered an opening speech emphasizing the Yoon government’s diplomatic vision and the importance of cooperation and solidarity with the Latin American countries. To this end, the Korean government is promoting the "Indo-Pacific Strategy" to expand cooperation beyond the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. 


5. Foreign Minister Park also highlighted the symbolic significance of Busan in Korea’s growth and development and asked for support for Korea’s bid to host the World Expo 2030 Busan, adding that he expects it to serve as a platform for sharing experiences and technologies for growth and envisioning future visions.


6. The participants engaged in discussions on various topics, including the implementation of the Indo-Pacific Strategy, economic security, infrastructure, climate change, and agricultural innovation. They agreed that Korea and Latin America can be mutually beneficial economic security partners, leveraging Korea's technology and Latin America's resources and potential. 


7. The forum demonstrated Korea's willingness to strengthen cooperation networks with Latin America, in line with the Korean government's diplomatic vision of becoming a "Global Pivotal State.”
