1. Deputy Minister
for Multilateral and Global Affairs Ham Sang wook had a meeting with Under
Secretary for Nuclear Security of the U.S. Department of Energy and
Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Jill Hruby
on Friday, August 12, in Korea. They exchanged views on cooperation between the
ROK and the U.S. in the civil nuclear field, and disarmament and
nonproliferation.
2. Both sides
agreed to further the ROK-U.S. cooperation in various civil nuclear fields,
such as overseas nuclear markets, small modular reactors, and stable supply of
nuclear fuel, in accordance with the ROK and U.S. Leaders’ Joint Statement of
May 2022.
o In addition, the
two sides recognized that active cooperation is underway between the ROK and
the U.S. in the field of nuclear security, with the Nuclear Security Working
Group under the High-Level Bilateral Commission (HLBC) playing a leading role,
and agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation in the field.
3. The two sides
exchanged views on trends in international discussions in the area of
disarmament and non-proliferation, including the 10th NPT Review
Conference in New York, and agreed to continue close consultation in this area
between the ROK and the U.S.
