Delivery Ceremony of Civil Society Policy Proposal Held on Occasion of 5th Korea-Africa Forum

1. On February 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Africa Insight jointly held a ceremony to deliver a civil society policy proposal to expand cooperation between Korea and Africa.

 

o Prior to the 5th Korea-Africa Forum to be co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the African Union (AU) in Seoul on March 3, this ceremony was held to deliver to the government a civil society policy proposal prepared by various stakeholders through consultations for six months and was attended by experts that represent civil society regarding Africa.

 

o This proposal includes ways to develop mid and long-term strategies, engage civil society in the 5th Korea-Africa Forum and cooperate in 9 areas including development and cooperation, health, trade and investment, and peace and security.

 

2. Kim Jang Hyun, Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received the policy proposal and listened to various opinions of the experts in Korea about ways to enhance Korea-Africa partnership.

 

o He also asked for support and attention of the experts so that the 5th Korea-Africa Forum to be held on March 3 will be able to achieve substantial results and mentioned that efforts will be made for systematic collaboration with civil society from the preparation stage for the next forum.

 

3. Based on the results of this ceremony, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will make efforts to successfully hold the 5th Korea-Africa Forum and expand public-private partnership to strengthen cooperation with Africa in various fields.
