1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun had a telephone conversation with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman on the morning of February 25 and discussed issues such as the current situation in Ukraine.
2. Vice Minister Choi and Deputy Secretary Sherman strongly condemned Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine and urged Russia to immediately cease its action. The two sides reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
° The two sides reiterated the need for the international community to stand together in resolving the situation in Ukraine, and Vice Minister Choi emphasized that as a responsible member of the global community, the Korean government will support and join the international community’s efforts, including economic sanctions, to resolve the situation peacefully.
° Deputy Secretary Sherman thanked the Korean government for its strong commitment to join and closely coordinate with the international community in responding to the current situation.
3. Vice Minister Choi and Deputy Secretary Sherman agreed to continue close consultations at all levels on various occasions and work together on matters of shared interest such as the situation in Ukraine and the Korea-U.S. bilateral relationship.
