1st ROK-Australia Cyber and Critical Technology Policy Dialogue Held

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea(ROK) held the 1st  ROK-Australia Cyber and Critical Technology Policy Dialogue on December 9th, 2021, in a virtual format. The two countries explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of cyber and critical technology.


° Ambassador for International Security Affairs Lee Choongmyon and Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology Tobias Feakin attended as heads of the ROK and Australian delegations. The Dialogue also brought together officials of various cyber- and critical technology-related government agencies of the two countries.



2. In the Dialogue, the two countries discussed information sharing on cyber and critical technology issues, cooperation on the design, development and use of cyber and critical technology, multilateral cooperation on norms and standards, bilateral cooperation to raise awareness and build capacity across the region.


° In particular, both countries reached a common understanding that close cooperation between the two countries is crucial to respond to threats in the fields of cyber and critical technology. They shared the information on their policies and strategies related to cyber and critical technology and agreed to further discuss possibilities for future practical cooperation.



3. The Dialogue was held for the first time, expanding the agenda of the existing ROK-Australia Cyber Policy Dialogue to cyber and critical technology in accordance with the MOU between ROK-Australia on Cyber and Critical technology cooperation which was signed by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries on September 13th, 2021. The ROK and Australia will continue to develop the Dialogue.
