Outcome of 9th Korea-Sweden Policy Consultation

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Sweden H.E. Robert Rydberg held the 9th Korea-Sweden Policy Consultation in Seoul on December 2, and exchanged views on the Korea-Sweden relations, substantive cooperation between the two countries, multilateral cooperation and regional issues including the Korean Peninsula.

 

Both sides took note that active high-level exchanges have been continuing since the mutual visits by the leaders of the two countries in 2019 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

 

Furthermore, both sides, as like-minded countries that share common values, agreed to strive to cope with the health and disease crisis which has emerged as a new security issue and to strengthen cooperation in the fields of security, peace and disarmament.

 

Vice Minister Choi took note of the Swedish government’s efforts for the advancement of the Korean Peninsula Peace Process such as utilizing the dialogue channel with North Korea, and asked for the continued interest of the Swedish government.

 

- State Secretary Rydberg replied that Sweden will continue to actively contribute to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

 

2. This meeting, which was held for the first time in 4 years since 2017, served as an opportunity to strengthen strategic communication and exchanges between Korea and Sweden as cooperative partners in the fields of peace and future innovation as well as to keep the momentum of high-level exchanges between the two countries.
