Outcome of Korea-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Held on October 29 on Occasion of 2021 G20 Summit

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong had a meeting with State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi for about 30 minutes on October 29, on the occasion of the 2021 G20 Summit in Rome, Italy.

 

2. Regarding the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the two Foreign Ministers had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on ways of cooperation to advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, including end-of-war declaration.

 

3. The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on ways to develop bilateral relations, focusing on the progress since the last meeting on September 15, and regional and global affairs, and discussed ways to cooperate between the two counties.

 

° The two sides, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Korea-China diplomatic relations next year, agreed to make greater efforts to promote mutual understanding and friendly sentiment between the two peoples by ensuring the success of the Year of Korea-China Cultural Exchanges (2021-2022) and the Committee for Future-Oriented Development of Korea-China Relations.

 

° Particularly, Foreign Minister Chung emphasized the need for a detailed cooperation plan for promoting bilateral exchanges in the cultural content fields, including movies. State Councilor Wang agreed on that point and hoped to continue communication on these issues.

 

4. The two Foreign Ministers noted that the two sides have continued close high-level exchanges even amid the COVID-19 situation and agreed to enhance such close communication and exchanges in order to develop the Korea-China strategic cooperative partnership.
