1. During his visit to the United Arab Emirates, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong paid a courtesy call on H.H. Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on October 10, and exchanged views on issues of bilateral relations and cooperation at the international level.

2. Minister Chung congratulated Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed on the Golden Jubilee of the UAE this year and successful opening of Expo 2020 Dubai. He also mentioned that the UAE government had managed the COVID-19 situation in a remarkable manner and reminded him that the two countries had worked together closely in response to the pandemic.

3. Minister Chung also requested the UAE’s support and cooperation for the Korean government’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan and Crown Prince Mohammed mentioned that he hopes that the two countries will continue to cooperate on the issue.

4. Minister Chung hoped to strengthen and develop cooperation in various fields including culture and renewable energy as well as construction and infrastructure, in which the two countries have already worked closely, on the basis of strong trust between President Moon Jae-in and Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed.

5. Minister Chung then moved to Dubai by helicopter provided by the UAE to have a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on October 10, and discussed bilateral relations and cooperation with him.

∘ The two Ministers shared the view that the two countries have built trust in various fields on the basis of “Special Strategic Partnership” despite multiple challenges amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

∘ Minister Chung commended the Golden Jubilee of the UAE this year and the successful opening of Expo 2020 Dubai and he wished the success of the Projects of the 50, voicing hope that the bilateral relations between the two countries would further advance.

∘ Minister Sheikh Abdullah said that the UAE would like to take the achievement of Korea as a model and hoped to deepen the partnership between the two countries.

6. The two Ministers agreed to discuss cooperation on the international stage such as issues regarding hosting the COP 28 UN Climate Change Conference and World Expo 2030 in Busan, and 2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial.

∘ In addition, both sides exchanged views on recent issues of the Korean Peninsula and Middle East.

7. This visit is deemed as a chance to reaffirm the willingness of the two countries to further develop Special Strategic Relationship while continuing face-to-face high-level diplomacy despite COVID 19 situation.
