1. The Republic of Korea and the United States held the first meeting of ROK-U.S. Democracy and Governance Consultations (DGC) on October 15, 2021, which the two countries agreed to launch at the ROK-U.S. Summit in May, as a mechanism for coordination on human rights and democracy promotion efforts at home and abroad.
2. In the meeting, the ROK and the U.S. discussed opportunities for promoting human rights and democracy together and shared their respective human rights challenges and efforts to address them.
° In a separate session of civil society engagement, international and domestic non-governmental organizations participated in the meeting and expressed their views on cooperation between government and civil society in addressing domestic and international human rights and good governance issues.
3. Both sides agreed to hold the second Consultations in Washington D.C., United States, next year.
