1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong attended the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s annual Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) to be held under the theme “Shared Values: Building a Green and Inclusive Future” in Paris, France, from October 5 to 6.

2. As Vice-Chair of the 2021 OECD MCM, Foreign Minister Chung presented a remark in the MCM’s Opening on October 5, along with the Chair of the MCM, U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken, and the Co-Vice Chair, Finance Minister of Luxembourg Pierre Gramegna.

° He stressed inclusive recovery under COVID-19, the importance of sustainable development amid increasing inequality and an agile international response to climate change and also introduced Korea’s commitments to cope with the global challenges including vaccine contribution through an international cooperation mechanism, plans for expanding ODA contribution and policy efforts to reach “Net Zero.”

3. During the Member Discussion (closed session) under the theme of "Shared Values,” Foreign Minister Chung addressed that the strengthened social safety net to build a more inclusive economy and the transition to a low-carbon and green economy helped Korea recover early from the economic downturn caused by COVID-19 .

° He also highlighted that this successful outcome would not have been possible without Korean citizens’ trust in the government and the shared values of the OECD such as democracy, the rule of law, human rights and the market economy principle.

4. Through this MCM, Korea could express its will to extend its contribution to bring about the development of the OECD and solve global challenges by sharing Korea’s policies to build an inclusive future. Also, it was a meaningful opportunity to remind the importance of the OECD’s core values with other member countries in the year of the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the OECD.
