1. At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi will visit Korea from September 14 to 15. The two Foreign Ministers will hold a meeting on September 15.

2. The meeting is expected to serve as an important opportunity to strengthen high-level communication between Korea and China and seek future-oriented development of bilateral relations and the promotion of mutual substantive cooperation and friendly sentiment ahead of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year.

° During the visit, a meeting of the Korea-China committee for the promotion of people-to-people and cultural exchanges will be held as well in connection with the Year of Korea-China Cultural Exchanges (2021-2022). By holding this meeting, the committee, along with the Committee for Future-Oriented Development of Korea-China Relations recently launched on August 24, is expected to contribute to deepening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

3. In addition, Foreign Minister Chung will exchange in-depth views on the Korean Peninsula issues as well as regional and global affairs with State Councilor Wang in their meeting.

4. State Councilor Wang’s visit to Korea will take place about ten months after the one in November 2020, and the Korea-China Foreign Ministers’ meeting will be held around five months after their meeting in Xiamen, China, on April 3 this year. Despite the COVID-19 situation, the two Foreign Ministers have been continuing close communication in various ways, including face-to-face meetings.
