Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun Holds Follow-up Consultations on his Visit to Africa

1. On the afternoon of August 27, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun had separate meetings with Senegalese Ambassador to Korea Mamadou Gueye Faye, Moroccan Ambassador to Korea Chafik Rachadi, and Nigerian Ambassador to Korea Ali Mohammed Magashi to share the outcome of his visit to three African countries this August, and to hold follow-up consultations.

 

* Vice Minister Choi visited Morocco from August 15 to 16, Senegal from August 17 to 18, and Nigeria on August 19.

 

2. Vice Minister Choi appreciated his visit as an opportunity to reinvigorate bilateral high-level exchanges with each country, and he wished to develop bilateral relations by implementing the measures discussed during each visit.

 

° Vice Minister Choi expected high-level participation of all three countries at the 5th Korea-Africa Forum and the 2021 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial to be held in Seoul, Korea, this December.

 

° Vice Minister Choi asked Ambassador Faye to support Korean companies’ smooth business operations in Senegal, and asked Ambassador Rachadi that the Moroccan government cooperate in finding the Korean War veterans and their descendants. Vice Minister Choi and Ambassador Magashi agreed that the two sides would hold the 6th Korea-Nigeria Joint Commission in the near future to discuss ways to advance bilateral relations such as maritime security cooperation in the Gulf of Guinea.

 

3. The Ambassadors conveyed gratitude for Vice Minister Choi’s visit, saying that it was the first vice ministerial visit to Africa since the outbreak of COVID-19, and added that acting as a bridge, they will continue their efforts for the outcome of the visit to lead to stronger bilateral relations.

 

4. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will reinforce bilateral cooperation by continuously reviewing the outcome of Vice Minister Choi’s visit to the three countries in Africa, and will expand our diplomatic horizon by invigorating Korea’s diplomacy towards Africa.
