Outcome of ROK-U.S. High-level Telephone Conversations

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun and Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Noh Kyu-duk each had a telephone conversation with their respective U.S. counterparts, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman and Special Representative for the DPRK Sung Kim on the afternoon of July 29. The two sides exchanged views on ways for the ROK and the U.S. to work together to make substantial progress in achieving complete denuclearization and establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.


2. The Korean side emphasized the importance of continued efforts for dialogue and engagement with the DPRK following the restoration of the inter-Korean communication lines. The U.S. side noted that the restoration of the communication lines was a positive step and reaffirmed U.S. support for inter-Korean dialogue and engagement.


3. The two sides committed to continue close communication on the Korean Peninsula issue based on coordinated diplomatic efforts.


o Vice Minister Choi and Deputy Secretary Sherman agreed to continue high-level exchanges between the two governments following Deputy Secretary Sherman’s visit to Seoul last week.
