Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun Meets with Outgoing Qatari Ambassador to Korea

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun met with outgoing Qatari Ambassador to Korea Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haiki on July 29.

 

2. Vice Minister Choi expressed appreciation to Ambassador Al-Haiki for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations during his tenure over the last 2 years.

 

o In particular, Vice Minister Choi noted that the mutually beneficial relations between the two countries are exemplified by the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Carrier Slot Agreement signed between Qatar Petroleum (QP) and three Korean shipbuilding companies in June last year, and the long-term LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement signed between QP and Korea Gas Corporation.

 

3. Ambassador Al-Haiki extended his appreciation to Korean companies for their significant contribution to infrastructure projects for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and said that he is seeing a rapid development of bilateral relations despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

o In addition, Ambassador Al-Haiki reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for the Korean government’s efforts for lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

 

4. Vice Minister Choi asked Ambassador Al-Haiki to remain engaged in the Korea-Qatar relations and help the two countries expand their relations in a wide range of areas, even after completing his tenure as Ambassador to Korea.
