Public-Private Meeting on “Comfort Women” Issue Held on July 7

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun presided over a public-private meeting on the “comfort women” issue on July 7 as a follow-up measure to the “Public-Private Consultation Meeting” held on June 4 by the Office for Government Policy Coordination.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the small-scale meeting to exchange a wide range of views on the resolution of the “comfort women” issue based on the discussion from the last consultation meeting on June 4.

 

- The “Public-Private Consultation Meeting” on the “comfort women” issue was held on June 4, and was presided over by the Minister for Government Policy Coordination. It was held to listen to opinions on the “comfort women” issue from various sectors including organizations supporting the victims, legal representatives of the civil actions filed by “comfort women” victims against the government of Japan, and academic experts.

 

2. Vice Minister Choi expressed his willingness to continue public-private communication to resolve the “comfort women” issue, and the participants recognized the significance of close dialogue.

 

3. The two sides will continue their efforts to seek measures to resolve the “comfort women” issue based on a victim-centered approach.
