1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jongmoon and Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director of the WFP, signed the Partnership Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on June 30, 2021, in Brindisi, Italy.

- The Partnership Framework Agreement was first signed in 2015 to strengthen the partnership between the ROK and the WFP on food security issues. The agreement was renewed this time to reflect the recent developments in global food security discussions and expand the scope of Korea’s contributions to the WFP.

2. After the signing ceremony, Vice Minister Choi had a meeting with Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director of the WFP. Sharing the view that the international community’s efforts are essential in tackling the worsening food insecurity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, they agreed to work together closely to strengthen the partnership between Korea and the WFP, based on the renewed Partnership Framework Agreement.

3. The Korean government will continue its efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen its cooperation with international organizations such as the WFP.
