1. On June 29, Director-General for North American Affairs Ko Yunju held the 2nd “Bilateral Policy Dialogue (BPD),” a director-general/deputy assistant secretary level regular consultative platform, with Marc Knapper, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Korea and Japan at the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, who is on a visit to Seoul.

2. Director-General Ko and Deputy Assistant Secretary Knapper had broad discussions on the follow-up measures of the ROK-U.S. Summit in May as well as the issues of mutual interest including alliance, regional and global issues.

° In particular, they closely consulted on the outcome of high-level exchanges including the recent ROK-U.S. Summit and agreed to continue to put efforts to ensure their smooth implementation.

​

° They also agreed to expand ROK-U.S. cooperation for regional peace and prosperity and shared the view on the importance of ROK-U.S.-Japan trilateral cooperation.

3. Director-General Ko and Deputy Assistant Secretary Knapper recognized the usefulness of the regular DG/DAS level consultation for stable management of various issues between the two countries, and agreed to hold the next meeting in Washington D.C. at a mutually convenient time in the second half of this year.
