1. Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-ho will visit Sudan from June 27 to 29. During the visit, Deputy Minister Lee will pay courtesy visits to the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Sudan, hold the 8th Korea-Sudan High-level Policy Consultation with his counterpart, and participate in the Korea-Sudan Business Partnership Forum to be held in Khartoum.

2. This visit is expected to be a great opportunity to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, as Sudan is currently in political and economic transition.

ㅇ Following the signing of the Juba Peace Agreement in October 2020 and the U.S.’ removal of Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, the international community has begun economic support for Sudan, while making inroads into the country.

3. This visit is particularly meaningful, because it is not only the first visit of a high-level Korean government official to Africa this year but also the first bilateral high-level exchange with Sudan’s Transitional Government, which was established in August 2019 through a civil revolution.
