Outcomes of Telephone Conversation between Foreign Ministers of Korea and Malaysia

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein had a phone call on May 25 to exchange views on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and to discuss regional issues.

 

2. The two foreign ministers noted with appreciation that cooperation between the two countries has been strengthening even amidst the COVID-19 situation and agreed to work together to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as healthcare and medical science, smart cities, and high-tech industries.

 

o The two foreign ministers also agreed to work closely in facilitating people-to-people exchanges through such means as “fast track travel arrangements.”

 

3. On the latest developments in Myanmar, the foreign ministers agreed that the five-point consensus reached at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting on April 24 should be implemented in a faithful manner, especially the consensus on ceasing violence and commencing constructive dialogue among all parties concerned, and agreed to communicate closely to this end.

 

4. In addition, Foreign Minister Chung extended his appreciation to Malaysia for its continued support for the Korean government’s efforts to achieve complete denuclearization and establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula and asked for Malaysia’s unwavering support and cooperation.
