Theme song created by ‘Parasite’Score Composer Jung Jaeil
World-renowned zoologist Dr. Jane Goodall narrates message prompting climate action

1. The 2021 P4G Summit Preparatory Office (Executive Director Yoo Yeon-chul) released the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit’s official theme song and its music video on its official website and social media channels on May 12.

 ㅇ The theme song and its music video, simultaneously released on the official websites and the social media channels of the nine government ministries in the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit, will also be available on the websites and social media of other ministries in due course.

2. The theme song (titled ‘wake up call’) created by Jung Jaeil, the  film score composer of the four Academy Award-winning movie ‘Parasite,’ will be the background music of the upcoming Summit.

 ㅇ The song begins with ‘Jongmyo Jeryeak,’ one type of traditional Korean classical music known as ‘Jeongak.’ It then moves on to the rhythms of Samullori Instrumental Music that express the sound of anger poured out by all living things. The convergence of tradition and modernity creates the most distinctively Korean melodies and harmony.

3. The theme song’s music video is jointly created by composer Jung Jaeil and director Jang Min-seung, who have continuously collaborated in the music arena.

 ㅇ The video chronologically portrays the Korean Peninsula since the Ice Age until the industrialized, informatized, and globalized present day. The underlying message is that today’s mankind, connected as one under technology, should seek for a common good to maintain a sustainable environment.

 ㅇ In addition to the heart-touching music, the images of Jeju’s Hallasan Mountain and lava cave, the tidal flats along the West Sea, the Ulju Petroglyphs, and the shell mounds of Busan’s Dongsam-Dong are featured visually, capturing the beautifully intact nature prior to human disruption.

4. Furthermore, world-renowned British zoologist Dr. Jane Goodall added narration with a sincere message.

 ㅇ Dr. Goodall, in a grave warning that mankind is destroying our planet, emphasized the importance of sustainable development and urged everyone to take action.

 ㅇ The full version of Dr. Goodall’s video message will also be disclosed on the official 2021 P4G Seoul Summit website and social media channels on May 13.

5. Yoo Yeon-chul, Executive Director of the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit Preparatory Office, said “with the Summit theme song’s music video featuring a harmony of various artistic elements, we hope to deliver the message that we should take immediate climate action before it is too late.”

 ㅇ He added, "I hope the Summit will become an opportunity to raise public awareness in climate change responses."
