Outcome of Telephone Conversation between Foreign Ministers of Korea and Denmark

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong talked over the phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Jeppe Kofod, on April 27, and exchanged views on Korea-Denmark bilateral relations, cooperation on climate and environment, and regional issues including the Korean Peninsula.

 

2. The two Foreign Ministers noted with appreciation that Korea and Denmark continued active high-level exchanges and trade and investment between the two countries have increased last year despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and agreed to further enhance the cooperation as this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Korea and Denmark.

 

° In particular, the two Foreign Ministers appreciated the signing of the Joint Action Plan between Korea and Denmark (2021-24) which sets out cooperation goals and implementation methods in various fields such as environmental, scientific, political, and economic issues. Moreover, the two Foreign Ministers vowed to accelerate cooperation between the two countries in all sorts of areas on the basis of the Joint Action Plan.

 

3. The two Foreign Ministers reviewed achievements in close cooperation between Korea and Denmark in the field of climate and environment based on the Green Growth Alliance launched in 2011, and reaffirmed to work closely for a successful upcoming 2nd P4G Seoul Summit to be hosted by Korea late this May.

 

° Foreign Minister Chung expressed concern over Japan’s decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the ocean, and asked for attention and cooperation of Denmark. Foreign Minister Kofod reiterated the importance of transparency, accountability, and international efforts regarding marine environmental issues.

 

4. Foreign Minister Chung expressed gratitude to Denmark for continuing to support Korea’s efforts to advance the Korean Peninsula peace process, and Foreign Minister Kofod reaffirmed the Danish government’s support for a peaceful resolution of the Korean Peninsula issues.
