1. Japan is planning to make decisions on basic policies to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the ocean through a related Ministerial meeting tomorrow, April 13 (Tue). Regarding this, the Korean government expresses grave concerns over the direct and indirect impact the decision might have on the Korean people's safety and surrounding environment.

2. The Korean government has been stressing to the Japanese government that it should disclose information with transparency and make decisions through consultations with neighboring countries. Thus, it will be hard for the Korean government to accept if Japan decides to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station without sufficient consultations.

3. Placing utmost priority on the Korean people's health and protection of surrounding environment, the Korean government will scale up radiation measurement and enhance radiological monitoring, and keep close eyes on Japan's decision on discharging contaminated water into the ocean and the related procedures. Furthermore, the Korean government will continue to respond to the issue by strengthening cooperation with the international community including the IAEA.
