Telephone Conversation between Foreign Minister and U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong had a telephone conversation with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John F. Kerry again on the morning of March 26 following the one on March 19, and exchanged views on ways for the two countries to work together on the response to climate change that is increasing around the world.

 

2. The two sides agreed to cooperate to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, ensure the success of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Nov. 1~12, Glasgow, the UK), and reinforce each country’s climate action.

 

o The two sides discussed concrete ways to create synergy between the “Leaders Climate Summit (Apr. 22~23, virtual format)” to be hosted by the U.S. and the “2021 Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Seoul Summit (May 30~31, virtual format)” to be hosted by Korea.

 

- Particularly, the two sides agreed to work for participation of the leaders of the two countries in the Leaders Climate Summit and the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit, and continue to strengthen cooperation between Korea and the U.S. including increasing the political momentum for greenhouse gas mitigation.
