ROK-China Director-General-Level Meeting on Delimitation of Maritime Boundaries Takes Place

1. The 8th director-general-level meeting on the delimitation of maritime boundaries between the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China took place on March 4 in a video format. 

° Given the continued COVID-19 situation, the meeting took place in a virtual format following the 7th director-general-level meeting held in July 2020.


The Korean and Chinese head delegates to the meeting were Mr. Rhee Zha-Hyoung, Director-General for International Legal Affairs of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Wang Xiaodu, Ambassador for Yellow Sea Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   


The Korean delegation was composed of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant government agencies and organizations, including the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Korea Coast Guard.



2. By continuing to hold the director-general-level meeting even amid the COVID-19 situation, the two sides have maintained the momentum of bilateral negotiations and exchanged a wide range of views on overall issues related to the delimitation of maritime boundaries between the two countries.
