1. Regarding the news of the death of a Myanmar woman on February 19 after being shot by Myanmar police, the Korean government extends its deep condolences to the victim and sincere consolation to her bereaved family.
° The Korean government also expresses deep concern over the press reports of casualties following violent crackdowns on protesters in Mandalay, Myanmar, today.
2. The Korean government maintains that the Myanmar people’s freedom of assembly and freedom of expression must be fully respected, and once again strongly calls on the authorities to refrain from excessive and unnecessary violence against the protesters.
3. The
Korean government hopes that democracy and constitutional order would be
restored in Myanmar in a peaceful manner in adherence with a lawful and
democratic process, and will continue close cooperation with the international
community to that end.
