1. As part of cooperation in two-way cultural exchanges that seek to promote cultural solidarity and exchanges between the Republic of Korea and ASEAN, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize the “ASEAN Film Festival 2020” through online platforms for 9 days from December 5 to 13.

o The “ASEAN Film Festival 2020” is a project implementing the two-way cultural exchanges, one of the seven strategic directions of the New Southern Policy Plus announced by the ROK government at the 21st ASEAN-ROK Summit (Nov. 12). The event will serve as a good opportunity to better understand films and cultures of ten ASEAN countries.

2. In particular, the “ASEAN Film Festival 2020” has been arranged in hopes that physical constraint amid COVID-19 would not lead to gloomy heart.

o Anyone residing in the ROK can watch 20 best hidden movies (2 per country) of ten ASEAN countries for free through Naver TV.

o Furthermore, special programs to be joined by film experts including Ra Jegy, Kim Hong-Joon, and Darcy Paquet will be held to help raise people’s understanding of movies and cultures of ASEAN countries, in addition to a conversation with film directors.

3. The Foreign Ministry will continue efforts to provide the Korean people with an opportunity to enjoy the cultures of other countries (regions) through two-way cultural exchanges promoting mutual understanding of cultures.
