1. Mr. Kim Jung-han, Director-General for Asian and Pacific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had a consultation with Mr. Takizaki Shigeki, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in Seoul on October 29 and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
2. Director-General Kim repeatedly explained the Republic of Korea’s position on the issue of forced labor and stressed that the Japanese government and the defendant companies need to show more sincere attitude in order to resolve the issue. He also called for a prompt withdrawal of the Japanese government’s unjust export-restrictive measures.
o In response, Director-General Takizaki explained the Japanese government’s position.
3. In addition, Director-General Kim reiterated the need for the Japanese government to respond actively to the ROK government’s efforts to hold the ROK-Japan-China trilateral summit within this year. Director-General Takizaki explained the Japanese government’s position on the issue.
4. Director-General Kim stressed the ROK side’s strict awareness and grave concern about the issue of contaminated water at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and Director-General Takizaki shared the Japanese government’s position.
5. The
two Directors-General agreed on the importance of continuing communication and
consultations to resolve pending bilateral issues and agreed to continue
consultations between the diplomatic authorities of the two countries.
