1. The government of the Republic of Korea sent 2 million face masks to the United States of America in emergency assistance as part of the ROK-U.S. cooperation for response to COVID-19.
° The provision of the masks, a follow-up on the discussion on joint response to COVID-19 between the Presidents of the ROK and the U.S. in their telephone conversation on March 24, was made in comprehensive consideration of the COVID-19 situation and the demand for and supply of face masks at home as well as the need to support the ROK’s ally, the U.S.
° The masks, which will be distributed to U.S. medical facilities on the frontline to fight COVID-19, will be transported by a U.S. cargo flight departing on May 11 and arriving in the U.S. on the same day.
is hoped that the assistance would help the ROK and the U.S. quickly overcome
the common challenge of COVID-19, while contributing to sharing the ROK’s experiences
of quarantine and treatment with the international community.
