Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Has Telephone Conversation with Minister of State of UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho had a telephone conversation with Mr. Nigel Adams, Minister of State (Minister for Asia) at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on the afternoon of May 1 at the latter’s request. The two sides shared developments in the spread of COVID-19 and exchanged views on ways to respond to it.

° Vice Minister Lee extended congratulations on Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s recovery from COVID-19 and return to work, and voiced hope that cooperation between the two countries would contribute to the UK’s response to COVID-19.

° Minister of State Adams highly commended the ROK for successfully responding to the spread of COVID-19 and thereby becoming an exemplary model for the international community and asked the country to take an active part in the development of the vaccine essential for the resolution of the COVID-19 crisis.

2. Vice Minister Lee stressed that, despite COVID-19, cooperation should continue in sectors where it is necessary and suggested holding an ROK-UK vice-ministerial Senior Economic Dialogue in the near future in the form of in-person or video conference.


° Minister of State Adams, welcoming the suggestion, voiced hope to discuss various issues, including economic recovery after COVID-19 and climate change, at the Dialogue.
