Outcome of ROK-Japan Director-General-Level Meeting (Feb. 6)

1. Mr. Kim Jung-han, Director-General for Asian and Pacific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with Mr. Shigeki Takizaki, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in Seoul on the afternoon of February 6, and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.

 

2. Director-General Kim repeatedly stressed the ROK’s position on the ruling issued by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the victims of forced labor, and called for a prompt withdrawal of Japan’s export-restrictive measures.

 

o Director-General Takizaki mentioned the Japanese side’s position on the issues.

 

3. Regarding the response to the novel coronavirus outbreak, the two sides agreed to continue to closely work together to share related information in a smooth manner.

 

o In addition, Director-General Kim asked for the Japanese government’s keen interest in protecting Korean nationals in Japan and preventing the situation from affecting them.

 

4. The two Directors-General agreed on the importance of continuing communication and consultation between the diplomatic authorities to resolve current issues between the two countries.
