1. Vice Foreign Minister Cho Sei-young held his first telephone conversation with Deputy Secretary of State of the United States John Sullivan since his inauguration for 20 minutes (08:00-08:20) on June 14, during which the two sides exchanged views on issues between the Republic of Korea and the United States.

2. Deputy Secretary Sullivan extended heartfelt congratulations to Vice Minister Cho on his inauguration, voicing hope for close communication and coordination with each other for continued advances in the ROK-US relations. Vice Minister Cho mentioned that as new Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs at a crucial moment in advancing the ROK-US alliance and moving forward the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, he will communicate and cooperate actively with the US government.

° The two sides shared the view that President Donald Trump’s visit to the ROK in late June will serve as a significant opportunity to discuss ways to establish a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula through its complete denuclearization as well as ways to strengthen the ROK-US alliance. In this regard, they agreed to continue close consultations between the diplomatic authorities of the two countries.

3. Vice Minister Cho and Deputy Secretary Sullivan agreed to communicate with each other candidly, whenever necessary for consultations on a variety of not only bilateral but also regional and global matters of mutual interest. The two sides, recalling the continuously held ROK-US Vice Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue, agreed to have an opportunity to meet and hold talks with each other as soon as possible.
