1. Ambassador for International Security Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kim Gunn will attend as head delegate from the government of the Republic of Korea the 5th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which will take place in Dushanbe, the Republic of Tajikistan, on June 14 and 15, 2019.
° The forthcoming CICA Summit, which will be hosted by Tajikistan, the chair of CICA, under the theme of “Shared Vision for a Secure and More Prosperous CICA Region,” will bring together leaders and/or minister-level officials of the 27 CICA Member States, including the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the Republic of Turkey, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2. In the ROK head delegate’s remarks on June 15, Ambassador Kim will explain the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and ask the CICA Member States to support the ROK government’s policy regarding the establishment of peace on and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
° In addition, given that a number of CICA Member States are partners for the ROK’s New Southern Policy and New Northern Policy, the Ambassador will stress that the ROK government’s foreign policy and CICA’s goal to step up exchanges and cooperation among the Asian countries can produce synergistic effects.
3. The CICA Summit, which will take place in five years since the one in 2014, is expected to serve as an opportunity to take the confidence among the CICA Member States to the next level and for the ROK government to win broader support from the international community on its diplomatic efforts to achieve denuclearization and establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
